Pastor Gail Whitcome Linstrom – “Accepting God’s Agenda for Us and Others” – Verdugo Community Church February 2, 2025

In her sermon, “Accepting God’s Agenda for Us and Others,” Pastor Gail continues the story from Luke 4:21 – 30 where after declaring that his mission is that set out in Isaiah 61. Jesus has to add that he must do this for everyone, not just those at the synagogue in Nazareth where he grew up. He does this by reminding them of the Old Testament episodes where the prophets Elijah and Elisha were led to help gentiles instead of their fellow jews who had the same problems. The people at Nazareth were furious and tried to kill Jesus. As Christians we have to accept that God’s plan, his agenda, is not ours, and that we may be called on to help those who we otherwise would avoid. Jesus came to show us how to love others, even our enemies. We need to act on his new commandment.
