VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE FEBRUARY 11, 2024

We open our service with song. Pastor Gail Linstrom begins by welcoming all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Michelle Hensley calls us to worship with a reading of Psalm 100, and Albert Ramseyer leads us in an opening prayer. Nick Baltazar and Ed Manacop lead us in our praise singing, and Greg Hart takes up the praises and concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People.

 

In her sermon, “Practicing Discipleship on the Way,” Pastor Gail addresses what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. She traces from Isaiah 58 the requirement that God wants his followers to recognize and help the poor, the homeless, the sick, those imprisoned and those oppressed. She then points out that Jesus modeled that behavior when he reached out to heal Bartimaeus, an ostracized blind beggar, in Mark 10. Jesus reminded his followers in Matthew 25 that when we help these people, we are helping Jesus himself. She challenges us to be aware of those in need around us and see them as valuable children of God.

 

Pastor Gail then leads us in the sacrament of communion, and you are invited to participate as well.
