VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE JULY 16, 2023

We open our service with song. Pastor Gail Linstrom welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Linda Kozik calls us to worship reading from Psalm 5, and Luisa Fernandez opens us with prayer. Nick Baltazar, Ed Manacop, and Mike Minasyan lead us in our praise singing. Hugh Linstrom takes up the praises and concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People.

 

In her sermon, “A Holy God and His Holy People,” Pastor Gail looks at Leviticus 19 to show that God is holy and wants his people to be holy. God’s instructions on holiness are based on our loving and helping others. Jesus reaffirmed this when he summarized the Law: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind; and, love your neighbor as yourself. Pastor Gail reminds us that holiness comes from the heart, not from following a rigid legalistic set of “do’s and dont’s.” God calls us to be a holy people whose hearts have been transformed, and our response is love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

 

Pastor Gail then leads us in the sacrament of communion, and you are invited to participate as well.
