VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE JUNE 30, 2024

We begin our service with Pastor Gail welcoming all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. She then calls us to worship with a reading from Proverbs 3 and Psalm 90. Michael Blanco opens us in prayer. Nick Baltazar leads us in our praise singing. Chaplain David Saltzman takes up the praises and concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People.

 

Pastor Gail in her message, “The Power of Faith and the Possibilities of Love,” asks what we should do in this time of change and conflicting calls on our loyalties. She looks at two stories from Mark 5 revealing how Jesus was willing to change what he intended to do to show his love and concern for those he was encountering. In Mark 5, Jesus was beginning to teach a large crowd when he was asked to heal the daughter of Jairus. He immediately went with Jairus, but stopped to affirm the faith of the faith of a woman with a disease who had been cured just by touching his tunic. Then he continued to Jairus’ house, and despite the doubts and scorn of the crowd there, brought the little girl back to life and restored her to her family. The ability to change our plans and show the love that Jesus had to others is what we need to practice. As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13, no matter what you do for the good, if you do not have love, it means nothing. As Christians we should always seek to follow the example of Jesus and his love for anyone he encountered.
