VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE MARCH 10, 2024

We open our service with song. Pastor Gail welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family and calls us to worship with a reading from Psalm 105. Albert Ramseyer centers us with an opening prayer. Nick Baltazar leads us in our praise singing, and Greg Hart takes up the praises and concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People.

 

In her sermon, “A Disciple’s Life Is the Testimony of Their Faith,” Pastor Gail looks at the teaching of James, the probable half brother of Jesus and the leader of the early Jerusalem church, to see how we show that we are Christians. James makes the point that just saying we believe, or even quoting Scripture, is not what Jesus expects from his followers. It is our actions toward those those we live with and encounter, especially those who are oppressed and rejected by society ,that demonstrate our faith. Only then can we claim that we are Christians, empowered to follow God’s direction in our lives and show his love to others.

 

Pastor Gail and Luisa Fernandez then leads us in a responsive liturgy to celebrate the sacrament of communion, and you are invited to participate as well.
