VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE MARCH 5, 2023

We open our service with song. Pastor Gail Linstrom welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. We are called to worship with a responsive reading from Deuteronomy 30 and Psalm 119 led by Dale Reynolds and Kim Cox. Luisa Fernandez leads us in the opening prayer. Kim Cox, Jessica Jimenez, Mike Minasyan and Ed Manacop lead us in our praise singing. Greg Hart takes up the concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People.

 

In her sermon “The Way of Discipleship” Pastor Gail challenges us to answer the question of what “discipleship” means. In Matthew 7 and John 13 Jesus emphasizes that it’s both what we do and why we do it that counts. Calling Jesus “Lord” and doing good deeds only to make ourselves look good or become richer is not what God wants from us. We must follow the example of Jesus, acting out of our love for him and others.

 

Pastor Gail then leads us in Communion, so you are invited to have bread or crackers and a beverage ready to participate in this sacrament.
