VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE OCTOBER 1, 2023

We open our service with song. Pastor Gail Linstrom welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Pastor Gail calls us to worship with a reading from Psalm 62, and Albert Ramseyer opens us in prayer. Nick Baltazar, Mike Minasyan and Ed Manacop lead us in our praise singing. Greg Hart takes up the praises and concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People.

 

In her sermon, “Waiting and Listening for God’s Voice,” Pastor Gail looks at instances where God spoke to people in the Bible, such as Moses, Samuel, Elijah, and Jesus and the lessons these teach us to apply in our own lives. Speaking with God begins in prayer, but we must wait for God’s response. God may speak in spectacular ways, as he did at Mount Sinai. But most of the time it is in the gentle whisper that Elijah experienced at Mount Horeb, not the violence of the storm, earthquake, and fire that preceded it. Jesus gave us the example of repeatedly praying alone with God, and being open to what God wants to be done. If we are patient and listen, we will hear what God wants us to do for others to build his Kingdom here on earth.

 

Pastor Gail then leads us in the sacrament of communion, and you are invited to participate as well.
