VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE OCTOBER 23, 2022

We begin our service in song. Pastor Gail Linstrom welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Dale Reynolds calls us to worship with a reading from Psalm 51, and Jessica Jimenez opens us with prayer. Mike Minasyan leads us in praise and worship music. Greg Hart takes up the concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People. Pastor Daniel Whipple, from Rose City Church, in his sermon, “Nonjudgmental Humbleness,” considers Jesus’s parable found in Luke 18:9 – 14 of the self-righteous Pharisee praising God for his righteous lifestyle, and the reviled tax collector begging God for mercy to forgive his sins. Then, as now, there was divisions in society that left each group feeling it was righteous compared to others. This leads to our not seeing other people as whole persons, and we are proud not to be like them. Jesus calls us to not judge those we disagree with, but to humbly see and love them as Jesus sees and loves them. He died for each of us and extends his grace and mercy to all.

 

Pastor Gail then leads us in Communion, so you are invited to have bread or crackers and a beverage ready to participate in this sacrament.
