VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE SEPTEMBER 1, 2024
Monday Sep 02, 2024
Monday Sep 02, 2024
We begin our service with song. Pastor Gail welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Pastor Gail and Pastor Gay Zambrano calls us to worship with a responsive reading from Psalms 95 and 100. Nick Baltazar and Ed Manacop lead us in our praise singing. Albert Ramseyer takes up the praises and concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People.
In her sermon, “Separating the Sheep from the Goats,” Pastor Gay Zambrano takes a close look at Matthew 25:31 – 46, where humans will be judged on how and why they treated each other. She points out that our behavior cannot save us, only God’s grace through Jesus Christ can do that. However, how we act toward others, particularly the sick, the outcasts, the foreigner, the vulnerable and oppressed, shows what is in our heart. As a veterinarian, Pastor Gay knows that goats and sheep are very different when it come to actions and motivations. Sheep stay together and support each other, they are “we” animals. Goats can join the flock, but they are “me” motivated and will go off on their own whenever it pleases them. Sheep and goats looks different, but not so humans, and a church can have both “sheep” and “goats” in attendance. We need to keep our focus on the great shepherd, Jesus, and show by our actions that our hearts are his.
