VERDUGO COMMUNITY CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE SEPTEMBER 15, 2024
Monday Sep 16, 2024
Monday Sep 16, 2024
We begin our service with song. Pastor Gail welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Luisa Fernandez calls us to worship with a reading of Psalm 100. Michael Blanco opens us in prayer. Nick Baltazar leads us in our praise singing. Albert Ramseyer takes up the praises and concerns of the church and our world in the Prayers of the People.
In her sermon, “The Shepherd’s Gift of Sabbath,” Pastor Gail reminds us that in Psalm 23 God shows that he care for us as we progress through life. One of these gifts is that of the Sabbath. He invites us to join him in resting from our work world, to enjoy his presence and that of others so that we are refreshed and ready to carry on. It is part of the Ten Commandments and was woven into Jewish culture and beliefs. When the Pharisees interpreted the Sabbath restrictions on “work” to allow rescuing farm animals in peril, but to exclude doing good for others, Jesus challenged them for their hypocrisy and misunderstanding of what God intended, saying that the Sabbath was made for mankind, not mankind for the Sabbath. Our culture wants us to never stop doing its bidding, but if we truly enter into Sabbath rest and worship we will enjoy its blessings and be better able to minister to others.
Verdugo makes its Sunday sermons available to you on Facebook and posts audio copies of the service and sermon at https://verdugochurch.podbean.com.
