In her sermon, “God’s Gifts Reveal Our Identity in Him,” Pastor Gail looks at Paul’s explanation in 1 Corinthians 12 that the spiritual gifts the Holy Spirit bestows on believers are unique to each of us. We need to discover what spiritual gifts we have been given, as well as insight into what our strengths are. To use our gifts and talents effectively, we must grow our relationship with God and with each other. Then as the body of Christ, we can work together using our spiritual gifts to accomplish his plan to build the Kingdom of God on earth.

In her sermon, “God’s Love Abides in Open Hearts,” Pastor Gail looks at John 15 to explore what Jesus meant when he says that he is the true vine and we are to be his fruitful branches. The relationship was one his listeners understood and were familiar with. By appreciating the life cycle of the grapevine, we see how branches that can no longer bear fruit must be pruned so that the healthy ones can thrive. Jesus affirms that his believers have been chosen by him. As disciples we are to abide in Jesus and obey his commandment to love one another, so we will bear much fruit. To conclude this part of the service, there is a period of personal reflection on what this means to each of us.

In her sermon, “Our Hearts Revealed,” Pastor Gail looks at the Easter story as found in John 20 and other scriptures to show that our response to the actions of God shows what is in our hearts. God had rolled away the stone that separated Mary Magdalene, John, and Peter from the evidence that Jesus had been resurrected. John and Peter saw the empty tomb and went home, believing. Mary stayed and encountered the risen Lord, although she did not recognize him until he called her name. God is always seeking us out by name, ready to help remove the obstacles to belief, but we must respond in love. When we do, we, too, can encounter the risen Lord and be transformed into his messengers of hope and salvation.

n her sermon, “Walking With Jesus – On Land and Water,” Pastor Gail looks at the story of Jesus walking on the water in Matthew 14 to explore why we, like Peter, doubt that God will give us what we need to do what he wants us to do. Peter starts out walking on the water, then sees the waves and begins to sink. Jesus reaches out and pulls him back up, but chides him for his doubts. To doubt is a common human reaction to the unknown future. Instead of faith, we give way to fears about what might happen in the future instead of living in the present and seeing what God is doing. She invites us to walk with Jesus and to keep your eyes upon him—on land and water.

In her sermon, “Not Your Ordinary Church Picnic,” Pastor Gail looks at the miracle of the Feeding of the 5,000 which is found in all four Gospels, comparing it to similar miracle involving the prophet Elisha found in 2 Kings 4. In both situations the skeptics cannot see how they can do what God wants done. Only by responding in faith do they find out how God will provide. God calls us all to bring what we have to the task, and trust him to use it to accomplish more than we could ever do alone.
