In her sermon Pastor Gail continues the Easter story with the Luke 24 account of Jesus seeking out the larger group of his disciples on Easter evening. He affirms that he is truly alive (not a ghost) and that they are to continue to have a living relationship with him. Jesus again reminds them of the Scriptural prophesies about the Messiah and assures them that the story is not ending, only beginning. Jesus came to give them – and us – a new and abundant life in the here and now. “Our Witness is love” if we live in relationship with Jesus and spread the Good News of his love by reaching out to others and inviting them to experience the Living Lord’s presence and his salvation.

In her sermon, “The Cross Is Our Door,” Pastor Gail continues the Easter story with the Luke 24 account of the encounter two followers have with Jesus on the Road to Emmaus. Although they are heartened by the women’s news that Jesus is alive, they are still dismayed by the crucifixion. Jesus reminds them of the Scriptural prophesies about the Messiah. In the first meal after the resurrection, Jesus reveals himself to the two in the breaking of the bread, who then hurry to return to the other disciples with the news of their own encounter with the risen Lord. This message further affirms the Easter message that Jesus is alive! The cross is our doorway to live a resurrected life of joy and power on earth being guided by the presences of our Living Lord.

In her sermon, “Rolling Stones and Resurrected Hearts,” Pastor Gail leads us through the story as told in John 20. Everyone is given a stone to hold until later. In this account it was Mary Magdalene is the first to come to Jesus’s tomb, not even sure of how she would roll away the boulder covering the entrance. To her surprise she finds the stone rolled away, but to her sorrow the tomb is empty. She asks Peter and another disciple to return with her but they then leave her to mourn alone. It is she who then first encounters the risen Jesus, and she becomes the first to share the news of the resurrection. Each of us have things that block our heart from accepting God’s love. Pastor Gail invites us to come forward with our stones, symbolizing those things and to lay them at the foot of the cross, and then take a flower in recognition of our new life of hope in Jesus and our resurrected hearts open to his love.

Monday Apr 10, 2023
Monday Apr 10, 2023
Pastor Gail Linstrom welcomes all to worship and to participate in thIs Good Friday service. Each part of the Good Friday story is examined with a reading from the Scripture, followed by songs led by Kim Cox. Dale Reynolds begins with a reading from Isaiah 52 and 53, prophesying how Jesus would be the “suffering servant” who faces death and humiliation on our behalf. Other readings from Hebrews explain what this means for our salvation. Ed Manacop begins our readings in Luke regarding the end of Holy Week. When we get to the Last Supper, Pastor Gail invites us to step into the story by leading us in communion, and you are invited to have bread or crackers and a beverage ready to participate in this sacrament.
Michelle Hensley, Jessica Jimenez, Hugh Linstrom, and Luisa Fernandez read what happened then through Peter’s betrayal, the trial, crucifixion with two thieves, one who will see paradise that day, and then Jesus’s burial. Pastor Gail concludes by reminding us that “Sunday is a’ comin”, and invites us to leave our sins and suffering at the Cross.

In her sermon “Part 2 – Living Water Brings Living Faith,” Pastor Gail shows us examples where God and Jesus met individuals to help them and to reveal themselves, such as the woman at the well in John 4 and the healing of the man born blind in John 9. God meets us in these “God appointments” today as well. Reaffirming the church tradition of individuals witnessing what God has done in their lives to each other, she invites us to share times when we have had God appointments.

In her sermon “Living Water Brings Living Faith” Pastor Gail uses the interactions of Jesus and a Samaritan woman at the well in Matthew 4 to illustrate how any person can meet Jesus where they are. We must put aside the unsubstantiated criticisms of this women added by others after the Gospel was written and read what actually happened in this, the longest conversation with Jesus in the Bible. Jesus breaks with his society’s norms regarding who he can talk with and shows her that he knows who she really is and what her circumstances are. In response to her questions, he reveals to her that he is the promised Messiah. She in turn carries this Good News to her fellow villagers, who also meet Jesus and come away with faith in him as the savior of the world.
