Verdugo Community Church Worship Service for March 27, 2022
Monday Mar 28, 2022
Monday Mar 28, 2022
Pastor Gail Whitcome Linstrom welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Ben Jimenez calls us to worship with a reading from Psalm 103, and Albert Ramseyer opens us in prayer. Guest Music Director Nicolas Baltazar, accompanied by Mike Minasyan leads us in praise and worship music. Greg Hart focuses us on the concerns and praises of the congregation in the Prayers of the People. Pastor Gail in her sermon “Run to the Father’s Arms” takes a new look at the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15, focusing on the father who had the two sons, clearly a metaphor for God. The father did not prevent the youngest son from making mistakes but welcomed him back unconditionally. At the same time she challenged us to realize that the stay at home, obedient son had also broken his relationship with their father. We all need to follow the example of the younger son and repent and return to the Father’s arms. Pastor Gail then leads us in Communion, so you are invited to have bread or crackers and a beverage ready to participate in this sacrament.
Verdugo is again meeting in person but will continue making its Sunday service available to you online at this site and will resume making video copies of the sermon available on Facebook at www.facebook.com/verdugochurch.

Andrew Mumm – “Turn to G*d” – Verdugo Community Church, March 20, 2022
Monday Mar 21, 2022
Monday Mar 21, 2022
Andrew Mumm in his sermon, “Turn to G*d,” directs us to Luke 13:1 to 9, where Jesus is asked to explain the deaths of people by Pilate or by a construction accident, to which Jesus affirms they were not guilty of sin. Jesus then tells a story about having patience to see good fruit come from an apparently barren fruit tree. Andrew challenges us to not hold on to resentment or even anger toward God when bad things happen to good people, because we must forgive to receive forgiveness.

Pastor Daniel Whipple from Rose City Church challenges us to view the experience of Jesus going into the Wilderness after his baptism as found in Luke 4 as a way to strengthen our relationship and understanding of God in his sermon, “40 Days to a New World.” He looks at others in the Bible who went through the Wilderness experience, such as Moses and Elijah. Using his experience as a hospital chaplain he reminds us that while we may we feel isolated in bad situations, God is always with us.
