We begin our service with an instrumental and then singing Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee. Pastor Gail Whitcome Linstrom welcomes all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Dale Reynolds calls us to Worship with a reading from Micah 4. Pastor Gail lights the Third Advent Candle, the Candle of Joy, and Andrew Mumm opens us in prayer. Music Director Heidi Sandoval then leads us in praise and worship music. Greg Hart focuses us on the concerns and praises of the congregation in the Prayers of the People. Pastor Daniel Whipple, from Rose City Church, looks at the way John the Baptist in Luke 3 called for his listeners, and us, to repent and begin living the right way so that we are ready for the coming of Jesus, in his sermon “The Joy of Advent.” Pastor Gail leads us in Communion, so you are invited to have bread or crackers and a beverage ready to participate in this sacrament.

Pastor Gail Whitcome Linstrom opens the Advent season by reminding us that the people we remember from the Advent story each paid a cost, but chose to do that because of their trust and hope in God’s promises of a Messiah found in Isaiah 9 and Jeremiah 33. She challenges us to be willing to seek Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love in this Advent season so that we awaken to become in John Wesley’s words, altogether Christians, not almost Christians, in her sermon “The Advent of Our Awakening.”
